The Philadelphia Eagles travel to the left coast and into hostile territory where they battle the Oakland Raiders. The game had the making of disaster for the Eagles and the Offense. So many questions before the game, especially revolving around the backup quarterback to starting quarterback flipflop because starter Mike Vick is still nursing his hamstring injury. Backup Nick Foles was out with a concussion last week, sustained the previous week when he put up a horrendous display at home against the Cowboys. Many wondered how he would bounce back after that huge disappointment, or if he would bounce at all. Questions also hovered around the Eagles Defense, and whether it would continue to keep up the impressive showing and allowing few points again another week.
All questions were answered with exclamation marks at the ends when Nick Foles ties an NFL record, throwing seven touchdown passes in the game, throwing for over 400 yards, no interceptions, and only six incompletions (one less than he had TD’s). Foles threw those TD’s to Desean Jackson, three to Riley Cooper, Zack Ertz, Brent Celek, and Lesean McCoy… wide receivers, tight ends, and running back. Foles has weapons, all going to a win of 49-20. The Eagles Defense kept the Raiders to only 13 points through the first three quarters, and only allowed the last touchdown with less than a minute left, also known as “junk time.”
It was more than an impressive outing by the Eagles, and a fun game to watch. This week the Eagles travel to Green Bay, who surprisingly are playing without the injured Aaron Rodgers. Should be interesting.
