Manning Face! – EaglesFanCast 123

As the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles NFL season continues in all of its dual personality, our own Eagles defeat the NFC East 1st place New York Giants in a game that came down to the final minutes.  The culmination of the game was backup Quarterback Vince Young, playing for injured Michael Vick, led his Offense on an 18-play drive for a touchdown that lasted 8:51, breaking the tie and going up 17-10.  Not long after, the Eagles Defense, which dominated most of the game, forced an Eli Manning fumble, stopping the Giants’ drive, and allowing the Eagles to win the game.  What was impressive was that the Eagles starting quarterback (Vick) and wide receiver (Maclin) were both out with injuries, allowing Young and Riley Cooper to fill their shoes, and they did it well. The Eagles won this game in the fourth quarter, something they have struggled with horribly this year, losing five games when leading in the fourth.  It sounds like a great win, and it was, not because of how the game was played, because there were plenty of mistakes and was ugly at times, but because we were able to see the Eagles dig down and do what they HAD to do to win.  The game was played with heart and determination, and we hope that carries the rest of the season that has so far brought disappointment.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles Defense stepped up big
  • Shady McCoy again had a great game, despite the Giants “stopping” his cutbacks most of the game
  • Riley Cooper had a great game in the WR spot for the injured Maclin, and caught his first touchdown pass
  • Vince Young should assume the locker room leadership role and mentor Vick and the team
  • Eagles have to cover two tight ends on the Patriots this week, and there is much concern for this

Dallas Destruction – EaglesFanCast 120

How ’bout them Cowboys?! That was a thought repeated many times the past few days by many Philadelphia Eagles fans. The Dallas Cowboys sauntered into Philly for Sunday Night Football, with Rob Ryan talking his talk, and the Eagles go up by 34 points before the Cowboys scored their first touchdown, in the fourth quarter.  The Eagles did everything right in this game, from coaching, to concentration, to discipline, to playmaking.  It was one of those games as a football fan that you have to admire.  The fact that it happened against the hated Cowboys, in Philly, in front of an international audience, and with fueling the thoughts of a season comeback… well that was just icing on the cake.  Make no mistake about it, this was one of the biggest games of the season, and may have many repercussions moving forward.  No, this season is not over, not by a long shot.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles crush Dallas, 34-7 at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday Night Football, and the win was one that felt very good
  • Eagles dominated on every aspect of the game, from top to bottom
  • Jason Peters was just amazing again, and Trent Cole returned in great fashion
  • UK Steve wrote in with questions as to who we would rather have on our team: Vince Young with Shady McCoy OR Michael Vick with Ronnie Brown
  • Jason Avant angered some fans after the game with remarks about fans jumping back on the bandwagon, and he doesn’t want it
  • Shady McCoy and Desean Jackson will need to be paid, but which one should the Eagles address first?
  • The Chicago Bears come to Philadelphia this week for Monday Night Football
  • The New York Giants lose their star running back Ahmad Bradshaw for the season with a broken foot
  • We hear from a UK listener who’s site, Brit Coast Offense, picks the Eagles to take the NFC East
  • EFC FFL update

EaglesFanCast 95 – BYE Week Bender

NASHVILLE, TN - OCTOBER 24: Kenny Britt of the Tennessee Titans catches a pass while defended by Nate Allen of the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL game at LP Field on October 24, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans won 37-19. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

We took a BYE week early, as a hard drive crash prevented us from recording after the Eagles – Titans game last week. But we are back with an extra week to nurse our wounds after the Eagles disintegrate in the fourth quarter of that game.  All is not lost as other teams in the NFC look to be on a downward spiral, plus we get some injured players back into the starting lineup. A very tough game is coming up this week after the BYE, as the hot Indianapolis Colts pay a visit to the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday. Also joining us this week for our annual BYE week tradition is Jason Brewer from the excellent Bleeding Green Nation.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles lose to the Tennessee Titans as inexperience in players and coaching lead to an ugly 4th quarter
  • Ellis Hobbs appears to have been demoted, or he is injured, we are not sure. Regardless, Dmitri Patterson replaces him in the cornerback position.
  • Inexperience definitely played a factor in last week’s loss to the Titans
  • Jason Peters will be back in his starting slot, and should stay away from microphones
  • Michael Vick is also back from his injury and takes the starting quarterback role from Kevin Kolb
  • The Indianapolis Colts scare the hell out of us this week
  • We broach the obvious topic: Donovan McNabb and his current issues in Washington
  • Former Eagle Jon Runyan is now a member of the U.S. House of Representatives!

EaglesFanCast 93 – West Coast Win

The Philadelphia Eagles stay tied atop the NFC East with a win over the hapless San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Kevin Kolb, playing for the injured Michael Vick, played with confidence behind an Offensive Line that sustained even more losses to injury. Speaking of injury, running back Lesean “Shady” McCoy started with a broken rib and contributed 138 total yards with a touchdown. Andy Reid had even more questionable coaching decisions that make us scratch our heads and the Eagles secondary fell asleep in the fourth quarter of the game, almost allowing the 49ers to build a comeback. Regardless of the negatives, the Eagles are now 3-2 on the season, and host the Atlanta Falcons this coming week in Philadelphia.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles win over the San Francisco 49ers 27-24
  • DT Brodrick Bunkley out for the season with elbow ligament damage, but there are now conflicting reports
  • LT Jason Peters injured his knee and may have an MRI on it
  • King Dunlap was horrible, and needs to find a way to stop the pass rushers
  • Kevin Kolb looked comfortable and more confident, scanning his receivers before unloading his passes
  • Shady McCoy is just an incredible talent
  • The Dallas Cowboys lost again, and the NFC East giggled
  • The Eagles have a lot of work to do on the O-line and D-lines, especially this week against the Falcons

EaglesFanCast 73 – Dream Weaver

The Philadelphia Eagles roll into Atlanta and destroy a depleted Falcons team with the help of none other than Michael Vick, who scored his first two touchdowns of the season with the win.  The Eagles also move into a tie for first place in the division after the New York Giants defeat the Dallas Cowboys.  The Eagles do not have time to reflect as they will be driving up the New Jersey Turnpike this Sunday where they will take on the Giants for another extremely important game.  We talk about all of this, handle a few emails and talk about where this Eagles team is at this point in the season.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles crush the Atlanta Falcons 34-7 in Atlanta
  • Michael Vick scores a touchdown both on the ground and through the air
  • Leonard Weaver made some amazing plays and is another Eagles weapon
  • Decent play all around from all sides of the ball this week
  • Email from Craig in upstate NY
  • We talk about some of the other NFL teams and how the season is turning out
  • Voicemail from… Jerry Jones?
  • Email from AussieSteve
  • Do we bring back Brian Westbrook, even if he’s ready?
  • Twitter topic from iconjohn… Vick as a non-factor, was it a good move by Lurie?
  • Eagles go to the New York Giants this week, big game as any Divisional game is.
