Eagles Draft 2012 – EaglesFanCast 129

The NFL Draft 2012 is now in the history books.  We are back with the scouting guru Tommy Lawlor to work through everything our Philadelphia Eagles did during the Draft weekend.  The Eagles went after the players they targeted, moving around in the order to get them.  We discuss how this all came about, and was each one worth it?  Overall things looked good for the team and if the new additions can make a difference this coming season, then the Eagles are an improved team overall.

Round 2 – LB Mychal Kendricks – Cal, 5-11, 240 pounds
Round 2 – DE Vinny Curry – Marshall, 6-3, 266  pounds
Round 3 – QB Nick Foles – Arizona, 6-5, 243  pounds
Round 4 – CB/RS Brandon Boykin – Georgia, 5-9, 183 pounds
Round 5 – OT Dennis Kelly – Purdue, 6-8, 321 pounds
Round 6 – WR Marvin McNutt – Iowa, 6-3, 216  pounds

EaglesFanCast 112 – Philadelphia Eagles 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles finish the preseason with a record of 3-1, and prepare to start the much-hyped and excitement-filled 2011 season.  The fourth game ended and immediately the fans and media started talking regular season and the high expectations.  We are excited and talk about our expectations for the start of the season, some of the other NFL teams, and did I mention the NFL 2011 season starts in just a couple days?  E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!

What we discussed:

  • The excitement about the Eagles for the start of this season is remarkably high
  • The St. Louis Rams will be a solid test to start the season
  • Is the Desean Jackson situation going to affect the Offense
  • Backup Quarterback Vince Young’s hamstring injury is being reported as minor and isn’t a concern
  • Our second EFC Fantasy Football League kicks off tomorrow night with the Draft
  • Next week Eric will get his Chevrolet Camaro convertible loaner for a week and we’ll have to bribe him to be on the show instead of driving around.  We encourage you to visit their site at www.drivingthenortheast.com and follow them on twitter,@GMNortheast

EaglesFanCast 111 – In Vick We Trust

The Philadelphia Eagles play their third preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on a rainy night in Philly, leaving only one game before the welcome start of the regular season.  The big news, though, is the new contract that the Eagles and quarterback Michael Vick agreed to yesterday. Although the details vary, essentially it is a 6-year $100 million deal with almost $40 million guaranteed for our starting QB.  We talk about what that means to DeSean Jackson’s contract extension that both he and the fans want.  Either way, we will see Vick leading the Offense in midnight green for years to come.

What we discussed:

  • The Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns in the third preseason game
  • Vick’s contract places him among the highest paid in the NFL
  • Jason Kelce is named the new starting Center
  • Both Danny Watkins and Kelce are starting rookies on the Offensive line, and it’s a concern for Vick’s safety
  • Linebackers discussion
  • The EFC Fantasy Football League will be back, and we will be using NFL.com this year. There will be 12 teams and the preliminary Draft date is set for Wednesday, September 7th.
  • EFC has partnered with GM, who will be loaning Eric and Chuck a couple of Chevrolet Camaro’s for a week to play with in September.  We encourage you to visit their site at www.drivingthenortheast.com and follow them on twitter, @GMNortheast

EaglesFanCast 110 – A Good Start

The first Philadelphia Eagles 2011 preseason game is in the can.  The Eagles beat the visiting Baltimore Ravens, with the green and silver offensive starters only playing for one series.  It’s not easy to get excited about preseason football, but it IS football, and the Eagles have become one of the most exciting teams to talk about since the lockout ended.  With so many new acquisitions, signings and trades, there are high hopes and we were all waiting to see this team take the field.  Obviously not much can be garnered from very little play, but what we saw was impressive.  Quarterback Michael Vick looked accurate and quick, taking the team down the field for a touchdown on the first drive.  The new Defense under new Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo looked fast, and it was welcome to see them swarming the Ravens quarterbacks on almost every play.  Even questions about our rookie kicker and punter seemed to be satisfied.

But again, it is preseason, and only the first of four at that.  Some of those players on the field in the later quarters will not be on the team in just a few short weeks.  There is also the concern about Jeremy Maclin’s mystery illness, as well as Mike Patterson’s skull blood vessel complications to see work out.

The Eagles management has shown us that they had a plan for the offseason, and are still in the process of executing that plan.  The next few weeks will see some adjustments to the team, and we will soon see what the new Eagles will become.

Next week they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers for the second preseason game, and we expect to see the starters play almost the whole first half.
