All About Hope – EaglesFanCast 211

EaglesFanCast Podcast

The Philadelphia Eagles execute their worst game of the season at the most inopportune time this week, losing to the Cincinnati Bengals 32-14.

Eagles fans are angry and extremely disappointed with this loss, for very good reasons. Quarterback Carson Wentz played poorly, the Defense was horrible, the running game was practically non-existent, players were repeatedly undisciplined, play-calling was more than suspect, and even special teams had a few flubs.

That’s led to many questions about what happened to the Eagles as the season has gone on, and rightfully so… how can a team that has performed well just start to crumble? Sure some of it falls on the coaches, but some of it also comes from talent. We all know the Eagles as a whole are better than they were last year. We also talked about how the 2016 season was going to be a rebuilding year, THEN the rookie quarterback is made the starter, so we did not expect much at all in the season. But then the rookie is good. They beat some teams we thought were much better, and hope blossomed.

But the hopes are dashed when reality comes knocking again, and people call for the coach to be fired, there’s talk about all of Wentz’s problems with his passing delivery, and the Defense is just poor. We talk about all of these things on the show, and then of course the Redskins drive on up to Philly this week for an NFC East game that no longer means a damn thing to Eagles fans, other than some pride.

Loss to Packers – EaglesFanCast 210

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe home crowd at Lincoln Financial Field got our first loss of the season to the Green Bay Packers 27-13. It was the worst loss of the season as well, at 14 points. What that means is to date, the Eagles have hung with every team they lost to, and most of those losses were by less than a touchdown. Feel down about this loss, feel bad that the season is all but over, but Eagles fans, do not feel bad about how this season has set a standard for the organization moving forward. There is a lot of hope, even though we want that success now, not next year, or the year after that. We want that success now. But first the Eagles have to lose to the Packers, who played a better game against an Eagles team with several starters injured, and a struggling Offense with a rookie quarterback.

December has hit, meaning not only colder temps, but it means we are quickly approaching the end of the season. This means we get to watch our future quarterback Carson Wentz continue to develop week after week. Let him learn by making mistakes, getting hit, or making poor decisions. There is a lot to like in this kid, and we are riding this Wentzwagon to playoffs in the not so distant future.

The Birds fly over to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals this week. The Bengals are also struggling, and this is a game the Eagles, on paper, should win. Looking forward to getting that taste back when we take on the NFC East teams the rest of the season.

Congratulations to Jeremiah Trotter and Merrill Reese for being inducted into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame. Both are deserving of the accolades.

EaglesFanCast Episode 41 – Predictability

Show Notes: Episode 41 for Tuesday, November 18, 2008

The hapless Philadelphia Eagles lose to tie the Cincinnati Bengals on the road. We start off raging against Andy Reid, and manage to keep that same tone towards him through the whole show.  We also are amazed at McNabb’s lack of knowledge of the game’s rules, and simply cannot understand how this team with so much talent can now be in this situation with a coach who seems to have lost his ability. It’s a rough show, but as this show is by Eagles fans, what else can we do but be honest? It is about this team, and it’s hurting right now.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles tie the Cincinnati Bengals 13-13, and this is as bad as any loss
  • The team had no energy at all on Offense
  • There were 58 passing attempts, and 15 rushing attempts… when your quarterback was again struggling and eventually turned it over four times
  • A post over on Bleeding Green Nation talks stats about the unbalanced play calling in the last two weeks against the Giants and the Bengals
  • Eric talks about how Bengals cornerback Johnathan Joseph talks about how predictable the Eagles Offense has become, and he was ready for it
  • Andy Reid has become predictable and continues to show his inability to adjust
  • We have an angry email from Chris Brown railing against Reid and this Offense
  • McNabb’s comments following the game were ludicrous, especially with not knowing the rules of the game he has played for so long
  • We get a “tired” email from Aussie Mike
  • We have an email from Holden Fulco with his reaction to the Giants game, yet the same comments apply eerily to this Bengals game
  • We talk about how the Reid – McNabb team is now 4-14 in the Division since the Super Bowl (thanks to Hollis for this in the comments section from last week’s post)

Vent and rage, you’ll feel better (no guarantees):

EaglesFanCast Episode 40 – Anything Can Happen

Show Notes: Episode 40 for Wednesday, November 12, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles lose to the New York Giants 36-31 at home.  The Lincoln Financial Field crowd was stunned after a series of missteps, predominantly from the coaching staff, cost them the game.  A lot of questions have arisen in this latest loss to yet another NFC East Division rival.  Confidence in the coaching has been lost, and the fans wonder what can change when your Executive VP of Football Operations and Head Coach are the same person.  At just over the halfway point for the season, and with the Division being so tough, hopes are already starting to wane for our playoff chances.

What we discussed:

  • We talk about the Giants game, and some of the frustrations
  • Giants ran all over the Eagles, and we couldn’t stop them
  • The Eagles running was flacid, and it appears that Brian Westbrook is not 100%
  • Donovan McNabb was tired at the end of the game, and we wonder how this can still be happening
  • Andy Reid cost them this game; his play-calling, lack of adjustment, and what we feel may be stubbornness, has now made this team mediocre
  • Caffination” (Paul) on twitter made a great comment that he wants a “Gruden factor”, meaning Dungy built the team and Gruden won the Super Bowl
  • We find it hard to find a positive from the game, other than Chris Gocong’s huge hit on Brandon Jacobs
  • A poll on Bleeding Green Nation shows that Andy Reid’s approval rating is 19%
  • Playoff-wise, this team is in a very deep hole now… losing three Division games
  • We go over the remaining schedule for the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys, and look at a few other NFC teams
  • DirecTV is searching for the ultimate displaced fan.  The winner goes to Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa. Most of our out-of-town listeners (sorry, AussieMike) are eligible for the contest, and we want one of you to win it!  It ends November 30th.

Be a part, show us you care:

Mega-trade in the works?

There is a nasty little rumor circulating that the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals have “agreed in principle” on a trade that would see the Eagles send disgruntled CB Lito Sheppard and one of their first round draft picks in next year’s draft to the Bengals for their equally disgruntled WR Chad Johnson. Although this is not necessarily a “new” rumor, the latest twist is that both teams are keeping it a secret until June 1st, where certain contractual issues that are currently preventing a deal to occur would resolve themselves.

Just think about it for a moment. Chad Johnson on one side, Reggie Brown (now the #2 receiver) on the other. Kevin Curtis line up in the slot (ala Wes Welker). LJ Smith over tackle, and B-West in the backfield. You tell me, what defense can cover all of those options??? (hint: the answer is NONE)
