Sammy Sleeves – EaglesFanCast 205

EaglesFanCast PodcastAfter a very tough loss to the Redskins the week before, the undefeated Minnesota Vikings and former Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford come to Philadelphia. This game started slow and ugly at times, but ultimately, the Eagles Defense were all over Bradford all day, sacking him six times, causing two fumbles, and an interception. Bradford was hit many times in this game, and it really got into his head early, and often. The Eagles Defense was the star of the game, for sure, although there was a kickoff return for 98 yards for a TD from Josh Huff, and that also kind of shined.

Eagles QB Carson Wentz struggled in this game, throwing for two interceptions on the day, but continued to mature in our eyes, having the continued confidence in some tough situations on the day, despite some fumbled snaps and miscues. He’s a rookie learning the NFL, one week at a time.

The Eagles are also in the rumor mill this week with trade rumors involving Torrey Smith, as well as Alshon Jeffery. As of the time of this recording, it’s still rumors.

But let us not forget, it is Cowboy Week in Philly. The Eagles will meet the Dallas Cowboys for the first time this season, down in Texas. As we all know, the Cowboys have been playing exceptional football with rookie QB Dak Prescott who has been playing great with no interceptions on the season, so far.

By the way, Tommy Lawlor sits in with us this week, and we question the hell out of him regarding the trade rumors, the good and bad of the rumors that have been flying around regarding DeSean Jackson.

Gut Check – EaglesFanCast 161

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Philadelphia Eagles get what we hope is a gut check in losing to the Minnesota Vikings 48-30, snapping the five-game win streak.  The Eagles Offense started out slow and quarterback Nick Foles struggled early on.  This left the Eagles Defense on the field a lot during the first half, and by the second half they were gassed, the Bears Offense played very well, and exploited a damaged Eagles secondary.

Eagles fans’ sad feelings were definitely diminished as the Dallas Cowboys played the Green Bay Packers, and after leading the Packers 26-3 at halftime, very impressively lost the game.  This left the Eagles alone in first place in the NFC East, and setting up a very critical, and exciting final two weeks of the season.

The Chicago Bears rumble into Lincoln Financial Field this week, and the game was flexed to the Sunday Night Football game as both teams have an 8-6 record and hoping for playoff spots.  The Eagles, we believe, will use the humbling loss this week to reassess their weaknesses and adjust to what is needed, both on the players and coaching sides.  This week was a gut check… the Eagles are a team that will overcome, and they will win this game at home.

Snow Bowl – EaglesFanCast 160

EaglesFanCast PodcastLet’s play some football in the snow!  In case you were living deep in the Caribbean this past week, you heard about the snowstorm that hit Philadelphia, dropping around eight inches of the white stuff during the game.  Reports called for an inch or two, then turning to sleet and rain in the afternoon.  They received the type of snow that made for legendary games, and the Eagles played to that caliber.  Shady McCoy set a personal and Eagles single-game record, plowing through 217 yards on the ground.  The Eagles Defense played and adjusted, and played and adjusted.  Overall they only allowed just eight points and made the Lions look like they were playing football on a snow day.

It was one of the greatest Eagles games I have ever seen, and at the time I was not believing what I was seeing at all.  Not in the Birds’ play themselves, but in the way the game played out.  It was fun, it was surreal at times, and it was a classic.  I wish I was there, but still enjoyed every second of it on the small screen regardless.  Our Eagles plowed through the snow, the Lions, and thanks to the Cowboys first step in their December implosion… first place in the NFC East.

EaglesFanCast 103 – Playoff Fever

The Philadelphia Eagles win the NFC East, and take the #3 seed in the NFC for the playoffs.  They lose the last two games of the regular season to the Minnesota Vikings in an ugly display of football, and the Dallas Cowboys in a meaningless game.  In the Wildcard game, the Eagles host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at 4:30pm.  Lots of concerns for this game, as the Packers are playing very well, and the Eagles ended on a down note, and quite beat up.  Regardless, it’s still another exciting year of Eagles playoffs, and the only team from the East in the playoffs, capping off a surprise and unbelievable regular season.  Cannot wait for this game to start!

What we discussed:

  • Eagles lose to the Vikings and Cowboys to end the regular season.  Should we be concerned?
  • Eagles are favored over the Packers by 2.5 points, but this game does not look good on paper for our Birds
  • Not a whole lot of excitement being displayed by fans so far, and we talk about whether it’s concern or Eagles fans are used to a playoff team now
  • Our esteemed cohost Eric becomes the first winner of the EFC Fantasy Football league
  • NiDice returns this year with a brand new awesome song called “Eagles Young Guns”, and we play it for you with permission

EaglesFanCast 102 – Heart

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - DECEMBER 19: DeSean Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles eludes Matt Dodge of the New York Giants and returns a punt for the winning touchdown as time runs out defeating the Giants 38-31 during their game on December 19, 2010 at The New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

Words barely can relate the exuberance the Eagles fans felt this past Sunday after erasing a 21-point deficit to the New York Giants.  The Eagles scored 28 unanswered points and found something in them that allowed them to execute one of the best comeback victories in the history of the NFL.  They put themselves firmly in first place in the NFC East with only two games left in the regular season, and now poised for a playoff berth.  It was an amazing victory on all sides of the ball, and they effectively changed the way every team now views the Philadelphia Eagles. No opponent can feel confident in a win, and every Eagles player now has the confidence that they can win every game no matter the circumstance or who they are lining up against.  It is a team of heart now, they believe it, and so do we.

Joining us on this week’s show is Tom McAllister, the author of the book, Bury Me In My Jersey: A Memoir of My Father, Football, and Philly

What we discussed:

  • Eagles beat the New York Giants, 38-31, scoring 28 points in the final eight minutes
  • We go over the negative aspects of the game, meaning the first half and Andy Reid’s no challenge in the third quarter
  • Chuck turned the game off when the Eagles were losing 31-10 and turned it back on at 31-31
  • The Eagles own the Giants, winning six straight games over them
  • Michael Vick seemed to get better, with more stamina, in that fourth quarter
  • Somehow we get comparisons to Donovan McNabb, and talk about how this team is so much better, with a new confidence, without him behind center in Philly
  • We talk about Tom McAllister’s book, his inspirations for it, and what went into it
  • The Eagles take on the Minnesota Vikings this week in a game that was flexed to 8:00
