DeSean Is Gone – EaglesFanCast 165

EaglesFanCast PodcastThings are never boring when you are an Eagles fan.  We have experienced that for years.  This offseason has been the same thing.  Not only do the Eagles take an active approach in free agency, but then rumors start running that the Eagles are shopping around their best wide receiver, DeSean Jackson.  After much speculation from the media, fan discussions, and heated debates, it all seemed to quiet down with Jackson himself indicating he would be back with the Eagles this season.  Less than a week later, the Eagles release their Pro Bowl receiver.  It sparks a fury of national coverage, and divides the Eagles fan base over what management has done.  Just five days later, DeSean Jackson signs a contract with the Division rival Washington Redskins, assuring the Eagles face Jackson twice a year for the next few years.

So a lot has happened in a very short amount of time. To work some of it out, Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com joins us on this episode to break down some of the timeline, opinions, and effects of losing the now-controversial receiver.

Free Agency 2014 – EaglesFanCast 164

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe 2014 NFL season came to a close, the Super Bowl was played, and the players from all teams cleaned out their locker rooms, some for the last time with their team, some for the last time as a player in the league.  The work then began for the coaches, management, owners, agents, and many others.  Free agency was just around the corner, and the teams do what they can to strengthen their team where they can, or when they lose players.  The Eagles were very active in the first few days of free agency this year, picking up players and even a trade for another running back that took many by surprise.

But did the Eagles really improve drastically, or was it an incremental improvement?  What were the missed opportunities so far, and now how much does the team need to rely on the Draft to finish the job?  Tonight we sat down with our longtime friend, Jason Brewer, the founder of Bleeding Green Nation, and talk about all of these areas.  We also have the pleasure of trashing the rest of the NFC East in mocking some (ok, most) of their decisions.

What’s This? – EaglesFanCast 157

EaglesFanCast PodcastWhat a football Sunday!  Your Philadelphia Eagles win their third game in a row, break the home game losing streak, and sit atop the NFC East Division going into the BYE week.

The Washington Redskins drive up to Lincoln Financial Field, most likely with a lot of confidence on Sunday.  Confidence because the first time these two teams met, the Redskins’ star quarterback, Robert Griffin III, was coming off of a major injury that sidelined him the season before.  Also, the Eagles had not won at home in almost 14 months.  We know that was something that played into the players’ heads, as a few Eagles players acknowledged it leading into the game.  Well, as we all know now, though, the game is over, the Eagles came out on top, Foles did another amazing job, our Defense bent but did not break, and ultimately the Eagles are in first place in the Division, and things feel good.  This team, including the coaches, is growing, learning, and improving together.  Let’s enjoy the ride and see where they take us.  We have two weeks to relish this latest victory, and analyze the shortcomings to this point.  I’m sure the coaches will be doing that a lot more than us.  Good.  We want the Eagles to go for the throat, and end this season as strong as they can… no mercy.

Philly Jawn – EaglesFanCast 156

EaglesFanCast PodcastBack to back wins, and back to back impressive displays from our backup quarterback Nick Foles as the Philadelphia Eagles traveled to Green Bay and beat the Packers 27-13.  Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers was out with an injury, and the Eagles Defense did what they had to do to stop the Packers two backup quarterbacks from doing any kind of damage all game.  It was another fun game to watch, as even the bad passes seemed to thread needles in the Birds’ favor, and that usually doesn’t happen to the Eagles.  Foles was not perfect this time around, but still threw no interceptions, and had another three touchdown passes; two again to his favorite target Riley Cooper, and another to Desean Jackson.  Shady McCoy had a great game, running the ball all day without much getting in his way.

This week the Eagles go back home, and NFC East Division rivals Washington Redskins drive up to the Linc for the festivities.  With a big Division game, and the bad juju of a very long winless streak at home, it is a game that must be won.  After this game the team can relax for the BYE, but they have work to do first.  The Eagles fans must show up, be loud, and support the players and the team.

Offense None – EaglesFanCast 154

EaglesFanCast PodcastTen straight home losses for the Philadelphia Eagles, as they lose to the New York Giants, and scoring no Offensive touchdowns in two straight games.  Quarterback Michael Vick, making his return start from a hamstring injury struggled and did not look confident, then left the game re-injuring his hamstring.  We discuss how this might be the last time we see Vick lead the Offense this season, or ever in Eagle Green.

A bright spot in the game was the improving play of the Defense.  Yes, we know that it was against a horrible Giants Offense, but Defensive Coordinator Bill Davis is making the talent his has work, and has been a relative bright spot the past few weeks.  We also talk about how Eagles fans are reacting with emotion regarding head coach Chip Kelly, with many on social media and calling the sports talk stations calling for Chip’s firing.  It is way too early for something like that, and everyone needs to give all of this time.  The Eagles organization is showing it has the future in mind, with the Eagles getting a couple of Draft picks from the New England Patriots in a trade for Eagles Defensive Tackle Isaac Sopoaga.  We need to be patient.  The Eagles are where we expected them to be before the season started.  What we didn’t expect is the flashes of brilliance that stoked the fires of hope.  And right now Philadelphia is in desperate need of hope on the sports front.

A scary good connection:
