Tebow and the Schedule – EaglesFanCast 180

EaglesFanCast Podcast

We are joined tonight by our original team member, Eric Grigg!  We start the discussions with the latest entry into the Eagles quarterback pool, arguably  controversial, Tim Tebow.  It surprised a lot of Eagles fans considering coach Chip Kelly’s other moves at the position this offseason.  With five quarterbacks right now, it’s going to be an interesting offseason, especially with the NFL Draft only a couple weeks away.

But next, just tonight the NFL 2015 schedule was released, and we break down our feelings on the season, and speculate how the season will go.  If we have the caliber team we did in 2014, it will be a great year (and it is a huge IF at this point), and many eyes will be on the Eagles, as we have a lot of primetime games to play.

We are ready for 2015!  Let’s go Eagles!!

A Missed Opportunity – EaglesFanCast 178

EaglesFanCast Podcast

The Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Washington Redskins, and losing any possible opportunity for a playoff spot, but end on a high note, defeating the New York Giants, and completing a sweep of our NFC East rival, and ending the season with a 10-6 record.

For most Eagles fans, the game was bittersweet, as despite it always being fun to beat a Division rival (let alone sweep them), it ended a season where ten wins did not get you into the playoffs.  We now have to watch the Cowboys take their turn, and wait eight months to see our Eagles play again.  The end of a season is always a sad time, but it is made even more sad when our hopes were so high so late in the season, only to have them taken away.

Despite how the December games went, Eagles fans should have high hopes going into the off season.  This is a good team, with a good coaching staff, and players that want to play for the Eagles and nowhere else.  They are growing together, and players that were hit with devastating injuries will be healthy again next season.  With a few personnel moves by the organization, our Eagles could very well be back in the playoffs in 2015 with a damn good shot at it all.

Thank you to everyone for a great season!

In The Hunt – EaglesFanCast 177

EaglesFanCast Podcast
The Dallas Cowboys came into Philly, and on a nationally-televised Sunday night game, trashed the Eagles in front of a stunned crowd at The Linc.  We not only saw the Eagles first home loss of the season, but we also so the NFC East race become much much longer.  With their win, the Cowboys took hold of first place in the Division, and all of a sudden the Eagles volatile season is in jeopardy.  Inconsistency and turnovers did the Birds in this game, and the Cowboys just didn’t make enough mistakes to keep the Eagles in the game.

Now we have to hope in another Cowboys loss, either to the Colts this week, or the Redskins in Week 17, and the Eagles have to beat both the Redskins this week, and the Giants in the last week of the season.  There are other scenarios that are possible for the Eagles to win the Division, but this first would be ideal.  Either way, the Eagles are not in control of their own playoff hunt.  The sad part is the Eagles could end the season with a very impressive 11-5 season, and still miss the playoffs.

We break all of this down, and more, with the always-brilliant Tommy Lawlor, who sat down and we talked about the state of the Eagles at this late juncture of the season.

DeSean Is Gone – EaglesFanCast 165

EaglesFanCast PodcastThings are never boring when you are an Eagles fan.  We have experienced that for years.  This offseason has been the same thing.  Not only do the Eagles take an active approach in free agency, but then rumors start running that the Eagles are shopping around their best wide receiver, DeSean Jackson.  After much speculation from the media, fan discussions, and heated debates, it all seemed to quiet down with Jackson himself indicating he would be back with the Eagles this season.  Less than a week later, the Eagles release their Pro Bowl receiver.  It sparks a fury of national coverage, and divides the Eagles fan base over what management has done.  Just five days later, DeSean Jackson signs a contract with the Division rival Washington Redskins, assuring the Eagles face Jackson twice a year for the next few years.

So a lot has happened in a very short amount of time. To work some of it out, Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com joins us on this episode to break down some of the timeline, opinions, and effects of losing the now-controversial receiver.

Free Agency 2014 – EaglesFanCast 164

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe 2014 NFL season came to a close, the Super Bowl was played, and the players from all teams cleaned out their locker rooms, some for the last time with their team, some for the last time as a player in the league.  The work then began for the coaches, management, owners, agents, and many others.  Free agency was just around the corner, and the teams do what they can to strengthen their team where they can, or when they lose players.  The Eagles were very active in the first few days of free agency this year, picking up players and even a trade for another running back that took many by surprise.

But did the Eagles really improve drastically, or was it an incremental improvement?  What were the missed opportunities so far, and now how much does the team need to rely on the Draft to finish the job?  Tonight we sat down with our longtime friend, Jason Brewer, the founder of Bleeding Green Nation, and talk about all of these areas.  We also have the pleasure of trashing the rest of the NFC East in mocking some (ok, most) of their decisions.
