EaglesFanCast 85 – Training Camp At Last

Well we are finally back! After taking a few months off due to all kinds of reasons, we finally make our 2010 season return. Todd and Chuck chat with one of our newest site writers, Steve Brown all the way from the UK!

We talked about the start of Training Camp, the excitement of a new season, and touched on players such as Kevin Kolb, Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, Stewart Bradley, Brent Celek and the newest Eagle, Nate Allen, among others.

With the departure of Donovan McNabb, leaving Kolb and Vick, Chuck raised the question about the Wildcat and it’s presence (or lack of) in this year’s Offense.

Still where we want to be:

EaglesFanCast Is Back!

Your EaglesFanCast HostsAfter a Summer of vacations, conflicts and technical issues… Eric, Todd and Chuck climb out of the sweltering heat to talk about our first love, The Eagles (our wives won’t read this anyway). With the team starting up Training Camp this week, we will start to see how things are going to look for our reconfigured 2010 Philadelphia Eagles. Hopefully this year will start off better than 2009 did, and the transition from McNabb to Kolb will be solid.

We plan to also record the show live on ustream, so join us in the chat room tonight at this address – http://www.ustream.tv/channel/eaglesfancast.  Check our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter for the exact time that we will start (somewhere around 8:30pm EDT).

The podcast will be posted a few hours later once it’s all been put together. I’ll let you know in the usual locations.

See you tonight!

McNabb Sacked By Strahan

I saw this today and simply thought, as Eagles fans, we all hated Strahan. As we all know, McNabb had quite a few detractors when he played for the Eagles, but now he is on the Redskins, and plainly put, now the enemy. So this ad is put together by Dr. Pepper and I have to wonder, how do Eagles fans feel about it?

  • Laugh at seeing McNabb crushed?
  • Nauseous at seeing Strahan’s gap-toothed smile?
  • Apathy towards Dr. Pepper now?
  • All of the above?

EaglesFanCast 82 – NFL Eagles Pre-Draft 2010

The Philadelphia Eagles are just over a week away from the 2010 NFL Draft.  This week’s show is all about that, of course.  We welcome Tommy Lawlor back to EFC for the third year of this tradition.  Eagles fans know Tommy from Eagles Blitz, his Draft expertise for years on Scouts Notebook, and of course from his work on PhiladelphiaEagles.com.  Tommy always brings a huge amount of player and team insight to us this time of year, and he didn’t disappoint in the least.

We open the show with Tommy offering his opinions on the McNabb trade, then we hit the ground running. This year’s Draft is a very deep one, and we expect the Eagles to use their picks to move.  One concern, though, is that the Eagles have enough holes on their roster for them to legitimately use all of the picks they have.  What about moving around? It is always a possibility, but Tommy does not think that the Eagles try to deal Michael Vick, because he does not believe that any teams would be willing to give much for him in this Draft.

Without question, the Eagles needs this year are: cornerback, safety and linebacker.  We are pretty much all in agreement that they take a cornerback as their first pick.

The Best Roster In The League!

“I feel this year we have the best roster in the league” said Joe Banner on July 26th 2009. As we now know, that roster didn’t fulfill its potential to win a Super Bowl. It didn’t even come close. Does getting rid of ten players back up Banner’s previous assessment or blow it out of the water? Well, when you consider that he also claimed to have the best roster in 2003, 2004 and again in 2008 I’d lean heavily towards the latter.

And so we say goodbye to released team-mates Will Witherspoon, Brian Westbrook, Shawn Andrews, Kevin Curtis and Darren Howard, plus the recently traded Reggie Brown, Chris Clemons, Sheldon Brown, Chris Gocong and Donovan McNabb. That’s a massive exodus of veteran personnel including, of course, the franchise Quarterback.

What does this mean for the coming season? Well, for one thing we’re likely to have the youngest group of players in the NFL. As far as I can see only David Akers, Sav Rocca, Juqua Parker and Jeremiah Trotter are over the age of thirty in a league where experience means a huge amount.

When Andy Reid was asked last week who his offensive leaders were he answered, “That’s a good question because Kevin becomes one of them. One of the things I’ve mentioned is that I think he’s a good leader. I think we have some tremendous leaders up front. DeSean Jackson has turned into a kid that has shown leadership ability. Brent Celek is one of our primary leaders.”

These are all young guys with a lot on their shoulders already, how much can they reasonably take on and still play at their best? Reid refers to DeSean Jackson as a “kid” which says it all. No matter how talented, these guys are barely more than rookies.

The successful returns of Jamaal Jackson and Stacy Andrews will be a big boost to the organization, but the Draft is where Andy Reid is undoubtedly focusing. With eleven picks to play with including five in the first 87 overall, we have some serious bargaining power.

I’m really looking forward to the Draft this year. With the revamped format, eleven picks and Andy Reid calling the shots it should be quite spectacular for the watching Eagles fans. There are some big gaps to fill, such as cornerback, but Reid has shown time and time again that he’s good at this side of the job and I’ll be relaxing with popcorn on hand and Twitter fired up!

I’m quite excited by this rebuilding process and for me, the Eagles ARE rebuilding even though no one at NovaCare will admit it. It may be a year or two until we make the playoffs again, but this team growing up together could eventually lead us to that elusive Super Bowl title that we all crave so much.

Just one thing though. If Joe Banner claims again this year that we have the best roster in the league, I’ll know for sure that his rose-tinted glasses are superglued to his face!

Cheers from the UK and GO BIRDS!
