Banged Up – EaglesFanCast 212

The Washington Redskins come to Philly, and hand the Eagles a 27-22 loss. Several players left the game with injuries or cheap shots, and a few of those players are now on Injured Reserve. Overall it was not a bad or ugly loss for the Eagles, but it marked a point in yet another Divisional loss that pretty much seals this team’s season as a big loss.

We discuss many aspects of where the team is at this point, and a little of our disappointments in the team’s place in the season. They are rebuilding, that is the case, and we’ve known that for a while now. And the opinions are definitely split on the team as a whole; whether they are just bad all around with a good quarterback, or whether there is a base with several gaps to fill. Yes we are at that point in the season now, where we start looking forward to the future of the organization, and where the management can take us… eventually.

DeSean Is Gone – EaglesFanCast 165

EaglesFanCast PodcastThings are never boring when you are an Eagles fan.  We have experienced that for years.  This offseason has been the same thing.  Not only do the Eagles take an active approach in free agency, but then rumors start running that the Eagles are shopping around their best wide receiver, DeSean Jackson.  After much speculation from the media, fan discussions, and heated debates, it all seemed to quiet down with Jackson himself indicating he would be back with the Eagles this season.  Less than a week later, the Eagles release their Pro Bowl receiver.  It sparks a fury of national coverage, and divides the Eagles fan base over what management has done.  Just five days later, DeSean Jackson signs a contract with the Division rival Washington Redskins, assuring the Eagles face Jackson twice a year for the next few years.

So a lot has happened in a very short amount of time. To work some of it out, Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com joins us on this episode to break down some of the timeline, opinions, and effects of losing the now-controversial receiver.

Free Agency 2014 – EaglesFanCast 164

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe 2014 NFL season came to a close, the Super Bowl was played, and the players from all teams cleaned out their locker rooms, some for the last time with their team, some for the last time as a player in the league.  The work then began for the coaches, management, owners, agents, and many others.  Free agency was just around the corner, and the teams do what they can to strengthen their team where they can, or when they lose players.  The Eagles were very active in the first few days of free agency this year, picking up players and even a trade for another running back that took many by surprise.

But did the Eagles really improve drastically, or was it an incremental improvement?  What were the missed opportunities so far, and now how much does the team need to rely on the Draft to finish the job?  Tonight we sat down with our longtime friend, Jason Brewer, the founder of Bleeding Green Nation, and talk about all of these areas.  We also have the pleasure of trashing the rest of the NFC East in mocking some (ok, most) of their decisions.

A Successful Season – EaglesFanCast 163

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Philadelphia Eagles 2013-2014 season comes to a close as the Birds lose to the Saints in a the final seconds of a heartbreaker.  Philadelphia was treated to a home playoff game after the Eagles finish the season with 10 wins and 6 losses and take the NFC East Division.  The team played well above our season’s expectations, and although they struggled at the beginning of the season, we saw a completely different team than how they started, with a new quarterback in Nick Foles, Lesean McCoy taking the NFL Rushing title as well as breaking the Eagles franchise regular season rushing record.  Desean Jackson also racked up over 1300 yards receiving, our tight ends exceeded expectations, and our Defense played much, much better than any of us anticipated.  And oh yeah, we have a couple of new coaches as well… anyone still have doubts?

To say this was a successful season would be an understatement.  Yes, some can argue that losing in the first round of the playoffs was a missed opportunity.  This Eagles team, though, established itself as a new team with a new approach, new strategies, new player attitude, and a drive to win when it seemed that was all lost just a year ago.

This was a fun season, an exciting season.  It was heartbreaking to see it end, but we cannot wait for next season.  It’s been a few years since we felt like this, and this feels good.  Just one more for the road, E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

Finish It – EaglesFanCast 162

EaglesFanCast PodcastWe talked last week after the loss to the Vikings that it was a gut check, and we had confidence that the Philadelphia Eagles would overcome and play hard against the Chicago Bears when they came to Philly on Sunday Night Football.  We were right, in a huge way.  Earlier in the day, the Washington Redskins had the opportunity to beat the Cowboys, and the Eagles could have won the NFC East with a win at home against the Bears.  It did not happen, and the Eagles game meant much less.  On the other hand, the Bears were playing for something.  What resulted was a solid, old-school thrashing with the Eagles coming out on top, 54-11.  All sides of the ball were in top form, and a message was sent to the NFL that the Eagles mean business, are playing in top form, and can possibly beat any team in the league on any Sunday.  They have another chance this Sunday night, in the last game of the 2013 NFL regular season in Big D.  The Eagles and Cowboys play for the Division title, and a spot in the playoffs.  The loser goes home.

Think about that for a minute.  We joked at the beginning of the season when we talked about Week 17 playing the Cowboys, and how it may mean something!  Very very few Eagles fans thought this team would be in this situation, and (as of Thursday night) being a 7-point favorite IN Dallas.  What a ride this season has been so far.  And it is NOT over.  This week the Eagles and Chip Kelly have the opportunity to finish it, and with style.  We cannot wait for this game.  Sunday night cannot come fast enough.

We also want to thank all of our listeners and followers out there during the holiday season.  We gained many new listeners, had some great guests, enjoyed many hours of fun on twitter, and have had an amazing year.  The encouragement and feedback have kept us going, and it has been very much worth it.  We hope all of you have had a great holiday season, no matter what you celebrate, or how.  To us it is about community and a shared love of the Eagles.  Thank you to everyone for being a part of what we do here.
