Dallas Week the First – EaglesFanCast 174

EaglesFanCast Podcast

Here we go, the start of Dallas Week in Philadelphia.  The week that we put behind all previous games in the season, good and bad, and only look forward to one team: the Dallas Cowboys.  Even in the third quarter of the Eagles game on Sunday, when the Birds were beating the Tennessee Titans, the chants of “We want Dallas!” echoed at times.  The fans may have been looking ahead to the Cowboys game, but the Eagles were taking care of business at Lincoln Financial Field.  The Eagles beat the Titans handily 43-24, putting up a solid game after a bad defeat to the Packers the week before.  This was a solid effort that saw LeSean McCoy run for 130 yards and a touchdown, an opening kickoff return for a touchdown by Josh Huff, and Mark Sanchez throwing for over 300 yards and a touchdown, and the Eagles Defense racking up another five sacks.

The team was not without their major concerns, as Sanchez threw another two bad interceptions, and the secondary allowed more big plays.

But it’s behind us.  This week, on Thanksgiving Day here in America, the Eagles travel to the Jerry Jones Pleasure Palace to take on the Dallas Cowboys for sole possession of first place in the NFC East.  It’s a huge game obviously, but there are many concerns.  Either way, it’s a game everyone is looking forward to watching, and a game the Eagles have to find a way to win.

It’s Not Over – EaglesFanCast 173

EaglesFanCast Podcast

The Philadelphia Eagles were embarrassed by the Green Bay Packers in frigid Lambeau Field, losing 53-20.  The Packers are the hottest team in the NFL now, and the Eagles had the unfortunate timing of meeting them now.  Many fans have panicked since the game, bashing quarterback Mark Sanchez, running back Shady McCoy, and even head coach Chip Kelly.  We are not at that point by any means.  Yes, the team under-performed on most sides of the ball this week, they turned the ball over another four times, we have our backup quarterback leading the Offense, and our star running back still has not found his 2013 form after ten games in.  They are 7-3, and tied for first place in the NFC East.  They play the Tennessee Titans in Philly this week, then close out the season with five NFC games, four of which are against the NFC East rivals.  This team can, and will, make the playoffs.  This loss is a wake up call for the team.  We have faith in the coaches to be able to pull this team together, prepare for each and every opponent the rest of the season, and produce a season we will be proud of.

Our good friend Steve Brown joins us to talk about the loss, and moving forward on the season!

It’s not over, Eagles fans… not by a long shot.  There is a lot of fun left to be had this season.  Stay tuned.

One Win Two Losses – EaglesFanCast 171

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Eagles of Philadelphia took a huge step this week, with an increased run game, and took down the Houston Texans down in Houston, 31-21.  Starting quarterback Nick Foles again struggled with turnovers, throwing an interception which resulted in Houston running it back for a touchdown.  At the end of the first quarter, Foles was sacked, and left the game with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.  On Monday, it was confirmed that Foles has a cracked clavicle.  This is an injury that may take six to eight weeks to recover from, if not longer.  Mark Sanchez took over for Foles, and will remain the starter for the foreseeable future.  Sanchez fit right into Chip Kelly’s Offense, and helped bring the Eagles to a win.  And with another Cowboys loss, it puts the Eagles back in first place in the NFC East.

An even bigger loss on the day was in the form of DeMeco Ryans.  Ryans intercepted Texans’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and as he started to run, went down, then fumbled the ball.  What appeared to be an ankle injury was much worse, and a torn Achilles will now put Ryans on Injured Reserve the rest of the season.  This is a significant loss for the Eagles Defense, not only from Ryans’ athletic ability on the field, which has been stellar, but from a leadership role.  He’s the leader of that Defense, the person that pulls the team together, motivates, and inspires.  We will have to see how Billy Davis adjusts the D to compensate for such a huge loss.  The first thing they did is sign safety Chris Prosinski, a free agent safety who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this year.

Scary Time of Year – EaglesFanCast 170

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Philadelphia Eagles drop their second game of the season to the Arizona Cardinals 24-20 on the road.  The injured Offensive Line forced coach Chip Kelly to cut down on the running game severely, and quarterback Nick Foles attempted 62 passes on the day.  Foles also added another two interceptions on the season, both costly.  He is definitely struggling this season in big ways, and the concerns are that he is not fixing what is wrong from week to week.  On top of that, the Eagles secondary are giving up big plays every game, where they are getting beat, or not even putting up much of a defense when balls are incoming.  Regardless, the Eagles of Philly are 5-2 on the season, and second place in the NFC East as we approach the halfway point of the season.  The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Washington Redskins, which keeps the lead tight.  We’d be silly if we didn’t mention Jeremy Maclin’s standout performance this week, who caught 12 of Foles’ passes for an amazing 187 yards and two touchdowns.  A stellar performance.

Todd shares his experiences at the tailgate and then in the stadium itself this week, as he was there at the Eagles-Cardinals game.  He definitely wasn’t alone in green, as there were easily 10,000 other screaming Eagles fans at the game in the desert.  They were easily heard and seen on the TV coverage, and it made all of us proud.

This week the Eagles remain on the road, and head to Houston to take on the Texans.  On paper the Texans are the weaker team, and the Eagles get back a few players that have been out with injuries, most notably Darren Sproles and Jason Kelce.  It’s good to see Kelce getting back, but Todd Herremans’ torn biceps might limit his effectiveness, but if anyone can play through that pain, it’s Herremans.

BYE Week Loss – EaglesFanCast 169

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe BYE week is upon us, and we all missed our Eagles playing this week.  The good thing about the BYE is that the team rested, and some of our injured players nursed their wounds another week without missing play time.  In their absence, though, the Dallas Cowboys won yet another game (against the New York Giants), going to 6-1 on the season, and shifting the Birds to second place in the NFC East.  This week we have both Tommy Lawlor and Steve Brown on with us to talk about the Eagles season to date, and how other teams in the league are lining up so far.

This week’s game against the Arizona Cardinals will be a very tough showing for Nick Foles, Shady McCoy, and the rest of the Offense, as the Cardinals have one of the better Defenses in the league.  The BYE week time off will rejuvenate the team, and if we get the running game established early, the Eagles Defense will keep the Cardinals’ Offense in check, and the Eagles will win the game down in Arizona.

We talk about a bit of the history of the Fly Eagles Fly fight song, and how it has become part of the heart of the Eagles team and fans everywhere.  Quarterbacks past and present, mobile and pocket, are also discussed and what seems to work and where they don’t.  It depends on the QB and his weapons, and it all factors in.
