Free Agency Mayhem – EaglesFanCast 179

EaglesFanCast Podcast

When the Philadelphia Eagles season ended, there were few doubts as to what the Eagles organization had to do to move into the 2015 season a better team.  Backup quarterback Mark Sanchez would be relegated to backup duties, if another QB wasn’t signed in the off-season, and plug several holes on the Defense, namely cornerback and safety.

But entering January, coach Chip Kelly became General Manager Chip Kelly, and Howie Roseman became the numbers guy for the organization, with all player personnel final decisions falling to Chip.  Then, March happened.  In a matter of days leading up to free agency, which officially kicked off the afternoon of March 10th, the Eagles team is practically unrecognizable from a player perspective.

At the end of February, the Eagles released TE James Casey and somewhat surprisingly, guard Todd Herremens, and the next week signed linebacker Brad Jones.  Rather standard so far.  The next day, fan favorite Trent Cole was cut, another salary cap release, along with cornerback Cary Williams.

Then things get, um, weird.

It is then reported that the Eagles will trade star running back LeSean (Shady) McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for ILB Kiko Alonso, who is coming off a serious injury.  This is a week before free agency officially starts, mind you.

Two days before free agency, quarterback Mark Sanchez is re-signed, to a two-year deal.  Now, free agent starting wide receiver Jeremy Maclin still has not been paid, and fans are wondering what is going on.  We find out quickly as the Chiefs announce they agree to terms with Maclin, and he will be reunited with former Eagles head coach Andy Reid.  But on the somewhat positive side, Frank Gore has reportedly agreed to sign with the Eagles.  So the running game has been more solidified with the loss of McCoy.

The day before free agency, the Eagles re-sign Brandon Graham, and things are good.  Then Gore backs out, and instead signs with the Colts.  Now Eagles fans question EVERYTHING about what is going on, many panic, and many break ankles jumping off the Chipwagon.

Finally the day comes, free agency, March 10th.  Some things will be answered.  But wait!  The Eagles trade starting quarterback Nick Foles to the Rams for injured QB Sam Bradford!!  Many a “WTF” was seen on Twitter.  Rumors fly rampant in many directions, and no one seems to know what is going on.

Then the Eagles add CB Walter Thurmond, CB Byron Maxwell, and RB Ryan Matthews is coming to town with the intention of signing.  Busy as hell, and all good additions!

Then comes March 12th, today, and things still aren’t done!  The Eagles not only sign Thurmond, but also Dallas Cowboys running back, the 2014 yards league-leading DeMarco Murray, comes to town and signs a lucrative contract!!  As Murray’s car is tailed by media helicopters from the Philly airport to Eagles HQ, it gets reported that the Eagles are shopping around standout guard Evan Mathis!

Mayhem, absolute mayhem as an Eagles fan.  We don’t feel this is over yet, and we cover some of this on this episode of EaglesFanCast!

A Missed Opportunity – EaglesFanCast 178

EaglesFanCast Podcast

The Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Washington Redskins, and losing any possible opportunity for a playoff spot, but end on a high note, defeating the New York Giants, and completing a sweep of our NFC East rival, and ending the season with a 10-6 record.

For most Eagles fans, the game was bittersweet, as despite it always being fun to beat a Division rival (let alone sweep them), it ended a season where ten wins did not get you into the playoffs.  We now have to watch the Cowboys take their turn, and wait eight months to see our Eagles play again.  The end of a season is always a sad time, but it is made even more sad when our hopes were so high so late in the season, only to have them taken away.

Despite how the December games went, Eagles fans should have high hopes going into the off season.  This is a good team, with a good coaching staff, and players that want to play for the Eagles and nowhere else.  They are growing together, and players that were hit with devastating injuries will be healthy again next season.  With a few personnel moves by the organization, our Eagles could very well be back in the playoffs in 2015 with a damn good shot at it all.

Thank you to everyone for a great season!

Dallas Week the Second – EaglesFanCast 176

EaglesFanCast Podcast
The Eagles come off their big win in Big D and laid an egg at The Linc in Philadelphia.  Our Birds lost to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday afternoon 24-14 in front of a stunned home crowd.  The fans were loud, but it wasn’t what our Offense needed in the game, which was essentially flacid on the day.  The Eagles put up a horrid 139 yards of total yards on the day, converting only two 3rd downs, and only getting nine 1st downs.  They couldn’t get anything going, and quarterback Mark Sanchez threw for only 96 yards.

It was a performance that has left a number of fans and sports analysts now questioning how good this Eagles team really is.  They have all of their games to teams with winning records in the playoff hunt, not a good place to be approaching a playoff possibility.

The Eagles Defense played well, but when your Offense doesn’t put in what is needed… points, yards, clock… it cannot sustain.  The Seahawks Defense was good all day, and they played like the champions they are.

The bright spot on the day was LeSean McCoy, who broke Wilbert Montgomery’s all-time rushing record as an Eagle.  Congratulations to Shady!

Next up on the list is again the Dallas Cowboys.  The two NFC East Division rivals meet for the second time in three weeks, this time in Philadelphia for a Sunday night matchup.  After the Eagles embarrassed the Cowboys in Dallas, and with the Division on the line, this game is setting up to be a classic.  For both teams, this win is crucial with the Division, and most likely the playoffs, on the line.  It is Dallas Week again, Eagles Fans!  This time we’re home, and we’ll welcome the Cowboys to town appropriately.

Dallas Beatdown – EaglesFanCast 175

EaglesFanCast Podcast

A huge, HUGE win for the Philadelphia Eagles knocking out the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium last week.  The Eagles performed great on all sides of the ball, and outscored the Cowboys 33-10.  The Defense was great, the Offense was great, and the Cowboys never could get anything going on their side of the ball at all.  Our fast-paced Offense had the Cowboys Defense winded in the second quarter of the game, which allowed Mark Sanchez to use many of his weapons and run a solid attack.  Our quarterback had no turnovers in this game, which hopefully built his confidence, which was needed.  Star running back LeSean McCoy had another great week, putting 158 yards on the ground, while Jeremy Maclin had 108 yards receiving.  Our Defense continued their assault on opponents’ QB’s, racking up another four sacks on the day.

And congratulations to Conner Barwin, who earned the NFC Defensive Player of the Month!

In just a few days, the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks visit Philadelphia, and it is a statement game for the Eagles.  Winning on Sunday can help erase most of the doubts cast in the Packers game a few weeks’ back, and go a long way toward a playoff spot.

Dallas Week the First – EaglesFanCast 174

EaglesFanCast Podcast

Here we go, the start of Dallas Week in Philadelphia.  The week that we put behind all previous games in the season, good and bad, and only look forward to one team: the Dallas Cowboys.  Even in the third quarter of the Eagles game on Sunday, when the Birds were beating the Tennessee Titans, the chants of “We want Dallas!” echoed at times.  The fans may have been looking ahead to the Cowboys game, but the Eagles were taking care of business at Lincoln Financial Field.  The Eagles beat the Titans handily 43-24, putting up a solid game after a bad defeat to the Packers the week before.  This was a solid effort that saw LeSean McCoy run for 130 yards and a touchdown, an opening kickoff return for a touchdown by Josh Huff, and Mark Sanchez throwing for over 300 yards and a touchdown, and the Eagles Defense racking up another five sacks.

The team was not without their major concerns, as Sanchez threw another two bad interceptions, and the secondary allowed more big plays.

But it’s behind us.  This week, on Thanksgiving Day here in America, the Eagles travel to the Jerry Jones Pleasure Palace to take on the Dallas Cowboys for sole possession of first place in the NFC East.  It’s a huge game obviously, but there are many concerns.  Either way, it’s a game everyone is looking forward to watching, and a game the Eagles have to find a way to win.
