Season of Change – EaglesFanCast 216

The Philadelphia Eagles 2016-2017 season is over, and we sit down and go over how the season transpired. From trading starting quarterback Sam Bradford and starting rookie Carson Wentz, to the first three wins of the season, to the struggles of our wide receivers, the suspension of Lane Johnson, to finishing up the season with two wins against the Giants and Cowboys. A brief look back at a season that had a change that could affect the Eagles for years to come. A new coach, a new quarterback, and a new path forward.

On the Wentz Wagon – EaglesFanCast 200

EaglesFanCast Podcast

The new Philadelphia Eagles make their debut hosting the Cleveland Browns, with new head coach Doug Pederson, new coaching staff, several new players on all sides of the ball, and our new rookie quarterback, Carson Wentz.

This is what many fans wanted to see, and none of us were disappointed. In interviews through the preseason, and analysts’ evaluations, it has been nothing but positive outlooks for Wentz developing into a quality quarterback. His debut was fantastic. Stats aside, he ran the Eagles Offense like a veteran would. He was confident, aware of his surroundings, and never seemed to panic. Yes, this was against the Cleveland Browns, one of the worst Defenses (and teams) that the Eagles will meet this season, and we have no delusions that the Eagles are a playoff team. This game was about our new coach, and new quarterback. This game was about getting Wentz out there in a stressed, real situation behind his Offensive Line. This was about new Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz and his revamped Defense. And this was about Doug Pederson, and how he was able to bring together his staff and team and start a new season with hope for the future.

Wentz is the New Man – EaglesFanCast 199

EaglesFanCast Podcast

The NFL regular season starts on Thursday evening, and our Philadelphia Eagles play the first game on Sunday, in Lincoln Financial Field against the Cleveland Browns. This week Todd and I are joined by our original co-host Eric Grigg, and our long-time friend Steve Brown (aka UK Eagles Fan) as we break down the latest Sam Bradford trade, Carson Wentz being named the new starting quarterback, how we see Doug Pederson moving forward, Howie Roseman’s brilliant preseason personnel maneuvers, and play around with how the season schedule looks.

We are truly excited to see how this new team and coaching system will work out. It is yet again another exciting time to be an Eagles fan, albeit this time with no expectations of the team making the playoffs. What we are seeing is all part of a rebuilding process, and it will take patience on our part as fans. It is not something we have a lot of, granted, but we are happy to see the organization making commitments that will bring the team back to playoff caliber in the coming years.

The 2016 Eagles season is about to get started, EaglesFanCast has now hit 199 episodes, and we are thrilled to continue to bring the fun to Eagles fans the world over. Thank you all, and let’s enjoy the team and the season. Go EAGLES!!

Moments of Mediocrity – EaglesFanCast 133

The 2012 NFL and Philadelphia Eagles season kicked off, and the result of a win was what we expected.  The WAY in which they won was not what was expected.  With QB Michael Vick throwing four interceptions, all but one of our Offensive line committing penalties, and a fully unbalanced play scheme, the Eagles barely win against a below average Cleveland Browns.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns 17-16
  • There were way too many mistakes in coaching, play calling, and fundamentals
  • DeMeco Ryans played great and is exactly what the Eagles had hoped for
  • Andy Reid recognized that his play-calling should have had more runs
  • Ray Lewis and the Ravens Defense is going to be more than a test for this Eagles Offense
  • This week is all about the coaching
  • Our safeties and cornerbacks did the job they needed to shut down Brandon Weeden

Foles Continues to Shine – EaglesFanCast 132

Three preseason games down, and the Philadelphia Eagles win their third.  This time backup quarterback Nick Foles takes the start while Mike Vick gets some rest for his ribs.  Foles continues to do very well, showing great things as a future starter with this organization.  The Eagles beat the Cleveland Browns 27-10 under his leadership.  We talked about how Vick needs to protect himself during this season and not put himself out there on every play if there are huge risks.  He has to throw the ball away or slide (feet first, of course.)  What we want overall, besides a safe quarterback, is a controlled and balanced Offense this year.  With the caliber of running backs we have, this Offense could be deadly if balanced correctly.

Our guest this week is EFC contributor Holden Fulco, and he brings up an former Eagles player who is also not doing well, in the name of Kevin Kolb.  The conversation then shifts to what the organization sees that we as fans do not, and most of the time the players that leave the Eagles do not thrive.

The Eagles organization had both good news and sad this week, with the sad being we learned of the death of legend Steve Van Buren.  Any Eagles history book has to mention him, and his accomplishments are still talked about to this day.

On the positive side, modern favorite Brian Westbrook announced that he would retire an Eagle.  Still amazes me as to how lucky I have been to have watched him live on that field so many times.  An amazing player and great person.  I’m glad he is retiring with us.
