I'm a married father of two crazy Eagles fanlets, living in South Jersey. Had season tickets in the 700 Level at the Vet for five years, then took a few years off. When the Linc opened, I jumped on board and have happily sat in section 114 since. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!

Controversy No More – EaglesFanCast 153

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Philadelphia Eagles, led by Quarterback Nick Foles put on a horrendous display of Offense, and lost, at home, to the Dallas Cowboys 17-3.  The shock of the day (among many) was that Foles performed so poorly overall.  After stellar weeks coming in for the injured Vick, Foles started again against the Cowboys in a battle for first place in the NFC East.  Eagles fans were very hopeful for many reasons, one of which the expectation that Foles would help the Eagles break the home losing streak that goes back to September 2012.

Unfortunately the Eagles Offense played poorly, with Foles executing a professional NFL Offense like he just graduated high school.  He was inaccurate, he was hesitant to throw into coverage, he did not get rid of the ball fast enough, and he had much trouble deciphering the Cowboys’ Defensive attack.  All told, it was one of the worst Eagles games, possibly one of the worst NFL games, we have had the unfortunate luck to see.

On the more positive side, the Eagles Defense played well again, and truly seems to be improving week to week since the Broncos game back in Week 4 of the season.  Unfortunately with no Offense to put points on the board, the Eagles team was left high and dry at Lincoln Financial Field again, with our runners falling down without being touched, and players dropping passes when a pass was actually thrown to them.

All in all, we hope this was a minor stumble on the season for Foles, but we will not get to see how he recovers, as he will sit out with a concussion in the game against the New York Giants this coming Sunday.  Michael Vick will return from his hamstring injury and start the game, hoping to bring a win with him.  We all hope for that.

In Foles We Trust – EaglesFanCast 152

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Philadelphia Eagles beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Sunshine State 31-20.  The Eagles move to 3-3 on the year, and remain tied for the top of the NFC East.  But what was most important in the game is the performance of Quarterback Nick Foles.  With Michael Vick sitting out to rest his hamstring, Foles commanded the Eagles Offense over a tough Bucs D, throwing for three touchdown passes, AND running in another.  Riley Cooper had 120 yards and a TD, DeSean Jackson had 64 yards and two TD’s, Shady McCoy added another 55 yards receiving on two receptions, and another five Eagles caught passes on the day… all adding up to Foles’ 296 passing yards.  Where was the running game?  Healthy, thanks to McCoy’s 116 yards (on 25 rushes) on the ground, with Bryce Brown also carrying five times for 20 yards.  A bunch of stats, but it proves a poing: Foles had confident command of that Offense that day.

As such, we talk about the Foles-Vick situation in Philly.  Which quarterback should lead this team moving forward?  Has Vick really lost the job, and has Foles really won it yet?  Does there need to be a change, or should the Eagles think to the future and develop Foles into the future leader they think he could be?  Right now there is no way to know what coach Chip Kelly is going to do.  It seems that Vick is comfortable sitting until his hamstring is fully healed, and why not?  Foles helped orchestrate a win over the Giants, and commanded a victory over the Bucs.

But this week there is a significant test.  The Dallas Cowboys visit Lincoln Financial Field, a place where the Eagles have not won since September of 2012.  Romo and the Cowboys Offense have put up significant points and yards, and the Eagles Defense is still not stellar by any stretch.  Whichever quarterback gets the call, they will be looking for a division win, and first place alone in the NFC East.  It’s going to be an interesting week.

Manning Head – EaglesFanCast 151

EaglesFanCast PodcastOur Philadelphia Eagles beat the Division rivals New York Giants, 36-21 on the road, then Tony Romo loses the game for the Dallas Cowboys against the Denver Broncos, and the Eagles sit atop the NFC East at 2-3.  Odd, huh?

What was great to see this week is how the Eagles played well against a bad team.  They did not play down to the Giants, instead, made a lot of good plays and more importantly did not let bad plays or execution set the tone thereafter.  We saw players make some great plays, and our backup quarterback come in and lead the Eagles to a win.

Michael Vick pulled a hamstring running out of bounds on a play, and backup Nick Foles came in to lead the Offense.  It appears that Vick will need to sit this week out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well.  Foles will start and run the Offense for four full quarters, so the anticipation is high to see if he keeps his poise and executes as well as he did in New York.  Either way, the media and some fans are talking about the “quarterback controversy” in Philly… but we see none.  Vick is the team’s starter, and it is his job to lose.

Overall what we like to see is the Eagles improve as a team and individually week to week, as the players adjust to their positions, the schemes, and their weaknesses.  The last of the long road trip ends in Tampa Bay, and it is not an easy game by any means.  We will see a lot in this Eagles team, and how they play and are coached on Sunday.

Manning Rolling – EaglesFanCast 150

EaglesFanCast PodcastWell as expected by most, the Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Denver Broncos. Not many expected the Broncos to put up 52 points, but in reality our Defense is struggling, and Peyton Manning is playing his best football ever. He also has the weapons needed to shred the struggling Eagles secondary, chew up the clock, and kept our Offense off the field.
This week the Eagles have yet another road game, and come back to the East coast to play the Division rivals New York Giants, who have yet to win a game this season. We hope to see plenty of Manningface on Sunday!

This is our 150th episode, and I wanted to say Thank You to all of our listeners for a lot of fun in our six plus years of doing this show. When we get caught up in the rest of our lives, we receive notes about doing our next show, we have listeners from all over the world that appreciate what we do, and we get even more messages that we just don’t have time to play or read each show. It’s amazing that a couple of goofballs like us can do this, and people want to listen. Seriously, thank you.

Talk it out!

Number 5 Retired – EaglesFanCast 149

EaglesFanCast PodcastThe Philadelphia Eagles lose their second game of the season, and slip to 1-2, with the unfortunate prospect of going to Denver to face the powerful Broncos this coming weekend.  The Kansas City Chiefs, helmed by new head coach Andy Reid, handed the Eagles yet another home loss.  Now the Eagles have not won a home game in over a year.  Eagles fans, nonetheless, welcomed Andy Reid back with much applause and cheers, properly thanking him for many years of successful Eagles teams and many years of hopeful seasons.

Also receiving a standing ovation and cheers was former quarterback Donovan McNabb, who the Eagles organization retired his number, 5, at a halftime ceremony.  Fan favorite (who also had HIS number 20 retired last year), Brian Dawkins was the emcee… and pretty much received as much in the way of cheering from the fans as did McNabb.  It was a memorable moment, a deserving moment as arguably the best quarterback in franchise history, yet marred by an Eagles team that did everything it could to hand the victory to Reid and the Chiefs.

This week the Eagles head a mile high, and battle a hot Peyton Manning.  Hopefully new head coach Chip Kelly will coach a way to score more or find a way to neutralize Manning.

Show your feelings!
